100-acre nature sanctuary is protective home to wildlife; quarter-mile elevated boardwalk provides access to nature; seasonal wildflowers and 100-ft. canopy of cypress trees.

Set at the mouth of the Savage River Reservoir, Big Run is a popular base camp for fishing, camping and hunting. Trailhead for the 6-mile Monroe Run hiking trail.

Resting and feeding area for migrating waterfowl. Huge flocks of ducks, geese and swans migrate through the refuge in November and December. Largest nesting population of bald eagles on the East Coast. Hiking and biking.

The park's renowned cliffs which dominate 30 miles of Chesapeake shoreline is a treasure trove of 600 known species of fossils.
